Ruffians Editorial // New City Slicker

Back in March, we organised our first editorial shoot, conceived and created fully by and for our Ruffians Team in Covent Garden. We've just finished editing and sorting out our second one.

Here's the reason we do this. We want to show you guys the creative minds that our barbers have. It's a common misconception that barber shops are merely chop-shops, where you go in messy and come out a bit tidier. At Ruffians, we want to show you that we have the technical capabilities of established stylists, the creativity of rising stars and the desire to push ourselves in the hair industry as well as in customer service.

Who will it suit?

This more laid back style can work for anyone with a bit of thickness and texture on top.

How do you style it at home:

Rub Ruffians Rough Matt Clay evenly throughout your hands, and work into the roots. Separate the hair for added texture.

For this editorial, we spoke to member of our Covent Garden Art Team Joe Parker. For him, he wanted the shoot to be stripped back - something simple, powerful and with a story; nothing pretentious or 'hipster'. So, we found model Sigge who had the perfect look for Joe's new 'City Slicker' haircut, and placed him in some sharp suits in Canary Wharf.

The two hairstyles reflect two different characters Sigge is playing - the first is a smart, wide-eyed businessman-to-be, awed by the huge towers of London's financial district but exuding confidence and style. The second has finished his day at the office - ruffled his hair up and relaxed his attire to fit in with the more casual setting after work.

The Haircut: It's a classic cut, much like a short back and sides. The cut is entirely scissored (no clipper work) and tapered on the back and sides. While more eccentric vintage/retro inspired looks have become somewhat of a trend this season, Joe wanted to achieve a style that would be timeless and functional.

Who will it suit? This looks better for people in a more corporate work setting. It's better for straighter hair; the same smoothness will be far more difficult to achieve with curly hair.

How do you style it at home: Blowdry Ruffians Styling Paste into damp hair with a brush - no need for a wet look pomade in this look; the Styling Paste will have stronger hold throughout the course of the day. Finish with hairspray.
