Jameson Caskmates at Ruffians

As you know, we're big fans of whiskey and events here at Ruffians. So, for the month of February 2017, we've teamed up with Jameson, who have brought in their deliciously smooth Caskmates to all of our stores.

We will be hosting Ruffians Pale Ale X Jameson Caskmates tasting events at our London shops throughout February. These are casual events where Mark Connaire, Jameson Brand Ambassador, will be taking guests through the tasting notes of the whiskey and beers. Ruffians barbers will be offering complimentary trims and tidy-ups on the evening.

The events are totally free, and we welcome anyone over the age of 18 to attend!

But what is Caskmates, we hear you ask, and what if I just want a simple old beer?!

Well - you're in luck. A chance encounter between Jameson Master Distiller, Brian Nation, Master of Whiskey Science, Dave Quinn, and Franciscan Well Head Brewer, Shane Long, in a Cork bar, led to an agreement for Jameson’s Masters to loan some Jameson casks to the brewery to discover their influence on Irish stout and then for the stout-seasoned barrels to be returned to the Midleton Distillery, where Quinn re-filled them with Jameson Irish whiskey.

So what does that mean? Basically - they've aged original Jameson whiskey in craft stout beer barrels, and the result is a delicious, caocoa-ey, butterscotchy, hoppy drink. It's intended to be served alongside a beer, each flavour and texture enhancing one another; but can also be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Caskmates is a head-turning, modern Irish whiskey.
