The Best Christmas Shopping Spots Near Our Stores
’Tis the season once again. This time of year has much to recommend it; the cheese, the time off work, the lack of required excuse for after work drinks, the list goes on. There is, however, one part of the festive season that many of us don’t gain as much pleasure from. We are, of course, talking about Christmas shopping.
Sure, you could make it easier for yourself by sitting at home in the warm with a laptop in one hand and a Bailey’s in the other scouting the Black Friday sales, but I’m guessing if you’ve read this far then you’ve already missed that train.
Time then to pop on those Winter layers and head out into the carnage that is town in Christmas shopping season. After all, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a bit of stress and anxiety, right? Plus, you’d be missing out on all of the vibes, you know; the lights, the displays, the endless loops of The Pogues and Kirsty Maccoll.
So, without further ado, we give you the best spots to do your Christmas shopping close to our stores. That way you can pull in your most important trim of the year at the same time as nailing your mum’s prezzie, win-win.
Seven Dials, Covent Garden
An elf’s frolic away from our Covent Garden barbershop is elite shopping destination Seven Dials.
Here you can find all manner of top tier present matter. All of the big names are round here as well as some top drawer independents.
Particular highlights include organic toiletries from the tucked-away Neal’s Yard Remedies (why not pick up a voucher for a treatment whilst you’re at it?), a luxury Christmas cheese board from the similarly named Neal’s Yard Dairy or some hip streetwear from Carhartt’s London flagship.
There’s also an excellent modern food market where you can refuel to give you that extra push to finish your spree. There’s a bar with excellent beers from Gipsy Hill Brewery too, in case you need to drown your sorrows after melting the Mastercard.
Redchurch Street, Shoreditch
A little more than a strong snowball hurl from our Rivington Street barbershop in Shoreditch is the charming Redchurch Street.
At the beginning of the century this street offered little more than a couple of off licences and an old school boozer. Fast forward fifteen years or so and the area’s rapid gentrification is obvious.
The majority of stores down here offer high end clothing - APC, Sunspel and Folk to name but a few. Alongside this there are top (sh)elf toiletries and fragrance from Aesop and Le Labo and on trend homewares from Earl of East.
Make an afternoon or evening of it by taking in a movie at the arthouse cinema and food at Smoking Goat (Thai), Cecconi’s (Italian) or Michelin-starred Brat.
Alternatively, if you’d rather get the job done quick then pick up a takeaway coffee from Allpress and a pastry from the excellent small batch bakery Jolene opposite.
Berwick Street, Soho
If you are having your hair cut at our barbershop inside Liberty in Soho then you could of course do all of your shopping and grooming under one roof, at one of the most iconic department stores in the world. And why not take in the breathtaking Christmas display whilst you’re at it?
However, we thought that’d be a little obvious for the purposes of this article, so should you not manage to get all you were after indoors (unlikely) then head few clops of Rudolph’s hooves down the road to nearby Berwick Street.
In all honesty this may well be the best spot in the city to buy yourself a gift. From Universal Works to Oliver Spencer and Supreme to Champion, there’s something here for every fashion taste.
Other highlights include the legendary Foot Patrol for the sneakerhead’s gift of their dreams or Italian deli Lina Stores on adjoining Brewer Street for the foodies on your present list.
You’ll be spoilt for choice should you decide to stop for some food too. Every end of the market and every tastebud is catered for around here; Korean street food at tiny Bao, flame grilled delights at Temper and modern American fare at Rita’s to name but a few good options.
Marylebone Village, Marylebone
Our Marylebone barbershop could lay claim to being one of the best positioned barbers in the country for which to hit the shops post freshen up.
You could pretty much toss a mince pie down St Christopher’s Place and see it land on Oxford Street in view of the iconic Selfridge’s department store.
Just the other side of Wigmore Street is Marylebone Village, which has a great selection of shops. As you can imagine in this neck of the woods much of the offering is meant to appeal to the well heeled residents of the area.
For fashion there’s Margaret Howell, SirPlus and Maje amongst many others. For homewares there’s the Conran Shop, Cologne and Cotton and Le Creuset. Other notable proprietors include masters of scent Diptyque and the renowned Daunt Books.
Stockbridge, Edinburgh
If you’ve come to your hair appointment on Queensferry without your sleigh, then take a leisurely stroll across The Dean Bridge, taking in the views as you go, towards delightful Stockbridge.
Once here you will be rewarded with not only a fine market but also an array of independent and niche stores.
Edinburgh-born Kestin offers excellent threads, as do luxe boutiques Dick’s and Toast. Scottish-made homewares are championed at The Independent Zebra and Grow Urban is a haven for house plant enthusiasts. Record store VoxBox is another favourite, full of hidden gems and music memorabilia.
If you want a tasty morsel en route then Bross Bagels offer some of the finest circular delicacies north of the border.
If you do find yourself visiting any of the above, why not pop in for a beer or coffee and say hello to the team? Better yet, book yourself an appointment.
