Introducing Ruffians Pomade

Introducing Ruffians Pomade
We are pleased to announce that we are launching another styling product to further enhance the Ruffians range, a pomade.

As always, we have listened carefully to feedback from our award winning barbers and loyal customers. The finished article is one that has been meticulously tried and tested in our lab and barbershops, so you can be sure that it’s the very best available.

For those of you that haven’t used a pomade before, here we take a look at what it does, who it us suitable for and how to use it.

What Is Pomade?

Pomade is one of the most well known and widely used products for men’s hair worldwide. It is a classic hair styling aid which has been around longer than almost all others.

Originally, pomade was largely used to sculpt and hold clean cut styles with an immaculate, high sheen finish. It was rocked by such legends as Elvis Presley and John Travolta and in more recent times by Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys.

Most OG pomades were oil based to enhance shine and lustre, but a very annoying byproduct of this was the near total inability to wash the stuff out of your hair. Subsequently, many of todays newer versions - including our’s - are now water based.

This means that you can still achieve the same pristine, glossy look without the hassle. Stronger than a wax and more flexible than a gel.

Who Is It For?

Pomade suits a wide variety of people.

In the main, it is ideally meant for those who like to wear their hair in neater, more classic styles. Think side parts, sweep backs, pompadours and executive contours. These type of styles tend to marry well with smart attire, from sharp suits to fitted polo shirts.

However, pomade can also be used in more contemporary edgy haircuts such as undercuts and disconnected fades with longer length through the top. It can also be a good option for mixing up your look for more formal occasions.

The finish of a pomade tends to be far slicker than say a clay or a paste though, so isn’t ideal for rougher, choppier styles.

How To Use It

Traditionally, pomade was worked throughout the hair from the base to tips before being combed into place. Fingers work just as well if you don’t want it to look quite so uniform.

Because our pomade doesn’t set rigidly, it can be touched up and reworked throughout the day as needs be.

Pomade works best as a finishing product, so if you blow dry your hair then do that prior to applying the pomade.

When you first use the product, apply a small amount and build up until you reach the desired style.

Ruffians pomade is available to buy online and in all of our barbershops now.
