Elephant Sessions – For the Night
We guess that most of you know that Ruffians was born in Edinburgh, and north of the border is somewhat of a spiritual home for us.
We’re proud of our Scottish roots and heritage. As well as great haircuts, of course, Scotland has been home to some pretty decent bands, from Belle and Sebastian to Texas, and Travis to Primal Scream.
There is also a strong Celtic music scene with festivals like Celtic Connections in Glasgow and Heb Celt in Stornoway, leading the way keeping the grassroots music alive.
Today the Elephant Sessions released their fourth studio album, ‘FOR THE NIGHT’, and it does not disappoint. There is a reason Rolling Stone Magazine say they love them, describing them as “using their instruments like weapons to destroy clichés”.
Hailing from the Highlands of Scotland, they take the high road with their intricate mandolin (Alasdair Taylor) and fiddle (Euan Smillie) tunes and the low road with their drum (Greg Barry) and bass-heavy (Seth Tinsley) backline.
Folk Radio describe the album as ‘the best distillation yet of their unique, vibrant musical mash-up of funk, trad and electronica. A captivating brew from start to finish.’. You can read the review in full here.
